Upon completing his bachelor in law and graduate studies (LL.M.) in Turkey, he pursued his Ph.D. studies in China. After his studies and researches in China, he started to teach Maritime Law, the Law of the Sea, Marine Insurance, Marine Environmental Law, Maritime Labor Law, International Maritime Conventions and the Polar Law courses at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) Maritime Faculty, Faculty of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Yıldız Technical University Naval Architecture and Maritime Faculty, Naval Academy in Turkey; and Admiralty Law, Maritime Law and Maritime Labor Law for State University of New York Maritime College (Joint Degree with ITU). In 2022, he completed MBA on Maritime Transportation Management and became a lecturer for Port Operators Association of Türkiye.
 
Onur Sabri DURAK’s research areas include the Law of the Sea, Polar Law, Marine Environmental Law, International Maritime Conventions, Maritime Law, Marine Insurance, Air & Space Law. He has extensively published articles and conference papers on maritime jurisdiction, petro(l)-piracy, ship recycling and marine pollution, invasive species in the polar regions, role of non-regional States in the Arctic, BBNJ, maritime casualties and the liability, Rotterdam Rules, Covid-19 and charterparties, maritime autonomous surface ships, green ports, protection of female searers’ rights, legal education, satellite insurance, etc.
 
In 2022 and 2023, he represented Turkish Space Agency for drafting the Concept Paper at the Asia-Pacific Space Cooperation Organization (APSCO) Space Law Alliance. In 2018 and 2019, he taught Polar Law and the Law of the Sea courses for Summer School held at the Koguan School of Law, Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU). He has been a researcher at SJTU Koguan School of Law and Polar and Deep Ocean Development Research Centre since 2019. In 2017, he participated for the Turkish Antarctic Expedition – I (first national scientific Antarctic expedition) as the legal & environmental officer. He worked at the Secretariat of the Antarctic Treaty in Buenos Aires and represented Turkish government for developing Antarctic policy and legal regime for a non-consultative State. He participated several Antarctic Treaty Consultative Meetings as a delegate of Republic of Türkiye. In 2015, he won Endowment Fund Scholarship from the International Seabed Authority and participated for Ocean Policy and Law Summer School. He is currently a consultant to Turkish Chamber of Shipping Kocaeli Branch and Port Operators Association of Türkiye.
